“I want to make two things perfectly clear – the air and the water.”
I was an eighth grade student in Putney when I made that statement during a speech in Brattleboro to mark the world’s first Earth Day celebration.
Today, as we mark the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, our environment is facing even greater challenges. Our air and water are threatened by man-made pollutants and our planet is in peril because of climate change.
This Earth Day will you do your part to protect what we hold so dear by making a contribution to my campaign? Just click on the donate button to make a contribution!
Like the Vermonters who gathered in Brattleboro that first Earth Day, we must take an active role in passing on to our children a healthy and sustainable environment.
I have a record of doing just that as a state senator and it will be my commitment as governor. Vermont can’t afford another governor who poses a false choice between the environment and a successful economy.
It is my hope that 40 years from now when another eighth grade student gives a speech on Earth Day two things will be perfectly clear – the air and the water.
